From street to safety: a new home for an eleven-year-old boy
Monday 04 August 2025
An eleven-year-old boy found safe haven at Malaika Kids after living on the streets for months.
The Malaika Kids Reception Home remains, above all, a safe haven for abandoned and abused children. Recently, the Welfare Department asked us to care for an eleven-year-old boy in vulnerable circumstances.
The boy was found selling eggs on the street to meet his basic needs. His sleeping quarters were a small shack in an abandoned building, barely big enough to lie down in. The situation is a harrowing example of the uncertainty and dangers many children in Tanzania face daily.
Since arriving at our shelter, he's been in a safe environment, has a clean bed, and receives nutritious meals and medical care. He also has the opportunity to go to school and the emotional support he needs to be a child again.
Thanks to the commitment of our donors and volunteers, we can offer children like him not only safety but also the prospect of a better future. Every contribution makes the difference between surviving and living.
Since 2021, Ramadhan has been working at Malaika Kids to support young people who are becoming independent after their time at the Children's Village. His commitment is essential for their future.
Ten health visits later: Doctor Simon back in Tanzania
After his tenth visit to Malaika Kids in Tanzania, Dr. Simon Cooper, a retired physician from the United Kingdom, has again seen over 140 children through our various programs.
