Christmas Appeal 2019

Thank you for your support

Our thanks go to all our supporters in 2019, you have been terrific!  Our Christmas Appeal on behalf of the Relatives Support Programme achieved its initial target with time to spare; we have reached 85% of our target of £40,000 and we only need another £3,000, which will be doubled with matched funding before 25 December. Please, can you help us reach the target?

£30 will support one child in their extended family for one month.

I’d like to donate and help the RSP families

The Relatives Support Programme enables abandoned children (some with complex needs) to live within their extended family, who are often living in abject squalor with limited resources (no electricity or running water) and limited income.

Your support has been helpful throughout the year. The response to the Mkuranga Primary School Appeal in the first half of the year was tremendous. The building renovation work is complete; the new toilet blocks will be fully completed in February, and we are taking delivery of new desks and chairs from our local supplier as fast as he can construct them.

We particularly value the contribution of supporters who donate on a regular monthly basis; this gives us clarity and a base for planning. If you would like to make a regular donation to support our children, you can do this via CAF Online.

We are also very thankful for the few donations we get from trust funds and corporates.

All in all, 2019 has been a year when we have taken on extra responsibilities (mainly related to education, including help for Mkuranga Primary) and fully funded them with a little cash to spare.

James (our village manager) will arrange special food and some sodas and set up some music for them all to dance to. Although the children do not get individual presents (which is not uncommon in this part of the world), they will have a good time during their holiday and will look forward to getting back to school in the New Year in January.

Francesca and I will be travelling to Tanzania on January 2 and staying in the Village and in Dar near the Reception Home until January 24.

We hope to arrange a ceremony with local dignitaries to mark our work at Mkuranga Primary, and we will be sending back pictures to Claire, who manages our social media accounts: FacebookTwitter and Instagram. We will also send more news from us to you while we are there.

We will also talk to every single child in our care and discuss the best way forward for him or her with our local team. It is enormously helpful to know that we have sufficient funds to cover all of our educational needs for next year and beyond. Because of our supporters we can make constructive and long-term plans for every child.

All the children in our care say Asante or thank you!

On behalf of us all at Malaika Kids, we wish you and your kin a very Happy Christmas!
