Our volunteers range from builders supervising the construction project to Dr Simon Cooper, our medical advisor. Currently we are looking for volunteers with educational or TEFL qualifications who can help our children with English, mathematics and IT.
Teach in Tanzania.
Every year we have a few openings for skilled teachers and youth workers who journey to Tanzania for extended teaching and coaching assignments. These dedicated souls live amongst the children in the Children’s Village and spend three months to a year making a direct impact on the lives of orphaned Tanzanian children.
Sandra volunteered for 3 months as a teacher in the Children’s Village helping local staff develop our new pre-school class for children aged from 3 to 8 years. She was delighted to see a great improvement in the performance of the children who had previously attended an under-resourced reception class in the local primary school.
The rest of the school-age children attend local schools, mostly for half a day, and need extra support both with their education and with extra-curricular activities
Gwenn (above) volunteered with us for 5 months working mainly with the older children and those with special needs. You can read her story here.
Length of placement
As it takes time to understand each individual child’s needs, we do not recommend a placement of less than 3 months. However, for someone with a very specific skill, we can occasionally arrange a shorter placement. We might also be able to make an exception if you were able to organise a school holiday programme during the month’s long school holiday between December and January.
Unlike many other volunteer organisations, our aim is not to make money out of our volunteers but to attract the right sort of person. We offer suitably qualified volunteers free accommodation and meals. We do, however, ask you to pay your flight, visa and anti-malaria medication.
To apply, email us your CV and a covering letter telling us why you would like to volunteer and what skills and experience you have to offer. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
